Well, just based on the way it works here in ontario, I would sure hate to see regulation come in that required grid connection.

Years ago, those of the alternative energy mind were trying to get net metering brought in, as in what you buy your electricity for, is the same as what you get paid for it if you produce an excess. For years, the utility company fought it. At that point in time, there was a single electrical company here which had a monopoly and was run by the government.

The battle was won... on their (the utility company) terms. They derugulated the utility, split the public company into three seperate ones. One that generates it, one that transports it, and one that looks after the equipment end of it.

And we now have net metering.... Great... right?

Wrong...

We get the same price for the electricity that we pay for it all right... unfortunately, that doesn't apply to the transmission costs or to the 'debt retirement charges, nor the service charges.

To clarify that... if you use ZERO power from the utility company here, yet are hooked up to them (as in you produce at least 100% of your own power all the time), you will still get a bill that is at least 37$. If you produce excess power and sell it back to them, the first you will have to sell enough to cover those bills before you see anything... and when you do start getting paid for it, it is in fact, at about half the rate you pay for it (taking transmission into account).

Think that it would be okay in your area because your utility companies arent set up like that?

Neither were ours...
