How about just using an inverter with a remote switch or wiring the
on off switch to a post outside so you can just reach out your
window and turn the inverter on as you come home.

 Inside could be the same.

Put it on a timer so it only stays on a short time.

Or buy a wireless battery powered remote control relay as you can never
have enough wireless remote controlled toys around.

I believe the Reporter motion detector has a gate opening relay.

I run my Reporter off a 12 volt battery bank and it lets me know by different # of
beeps that someone is coming up my driveway and even if they have
turned towards my shop or towards the house.

10 amp relay built in seperate so it can run most voltages for a light, alarm, or close
the on off switch on your inverter plus you get a nice alarm in the
house if someone pulls or walks into your driveway.

You could even use it to activate a heavier 12 volt relay that you could put on the
battery side of your inverter. It does use a little power and I am
not sure how much off the top of my tired brain but if you needed to
know I could check it the next time I make it home and let you know.
It has a 9 volt battery backup that lasts quite awhile so the alarm
stays on during power outages from the utility company but I do not
have that problem. I have used solar powered remote controlled
gates down in New Mexico to get in and out of fenced grazing lands
so we did not have to get out. Any of the above would be easier
than trying to supply multiple voltages to your garage door opener
and you can use the inverter for other applications in your garage
if you have the excess solar power. Long drive with only 3 hours
sleep so I hope that some of what I wrote makes sense. I believe
Northern Tools and Radio Shack sell the Reporter.
