No, not the singer. :-) Has anyone taken a look at these windgens:
http://mariahpower.com . The company claims 2000KWh/year at an average
wind speed of 12mph for $5000. I live in a NYC apartment but I'm thinking
that this might be an interesting thing to bring to the building's board.
If we could put a couple on the roof I wonder how long it would take to
pay for themselves? How close can you put vertical axis turbines to each
other? It might be time to invest in a logging anemometer to see how much
wind our roof gets. Suggestions there?

There are a handful of VAWTs (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine)that are being commercialized. The biggest advantage they have over the traditional HAWTs (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) is that they are omni-directional. VAWTS do not need to find and face the wind.
