I see what you mean about getting a SunDanzer fridge. They're cheaper than
even SUNFROST! Looks like they won't use a whole lot of power either!
They still need about 45 watts of solar panels just to run the fridge. If you
also need a freezer you'd need another 120 watts of panels. You also need a
backup charger, like an automobile alternator hooked up to a lawnmower engine
for cloudy days - you need bigger panels and batteries to last out a couple
rainy days and you still get them cloudy weeks sometimes. Adding a wind
generator would give you more days that you wouldn't need to use gasoline.
What do you think about the solar panel set up offered by Harbor Freight? It
looks to be a bit flimsy. Also, Walmart has deep cycle 6 volt (maybe 12v?)
Golf Cart batteries. Will these work on a 12vDC setup?
Search the archives for comments on the HF panels. They work but if you need
more than 7 watthours on average (45W x 4 hours average sun / 24 hours) you're
better off getting 100-200w panels from the start. The Walmart deep cycle
batteries won't last long - The Trojan T-105's are most commonly used for
smaller systems.
