Using A UPS For Off-Grid Power Inverter

They look like good batteries for a small installation, such as
an uninterruptible power supply for a computer / office.

Probably too small to consider for a full solar system such as a
cabin or house.

I modified a small APC UPS with a dead battery to use a battery
like that externally. It works great and gives me extended
backup time for the electronics.

What did you do to modify your UPS? I've just tried this, (24V deep cycle batteries connected to the battery wires of a APC1000 and it just beeps)? Do you need mains in to start the UPS up or something? Can you bypass this?

during Ike I used a APC 1400 ups with 2 wally world everstarts plus a small 1.5 kw generator to run things around here. You have to punch a hole in the side to get the Anderson plug out. To cold start it, just push & hold the button for about a second and it should come on
